Dadri, Vegetarian Meat Eaters

Indian Express: "Dadri: Mob kills man, injures son over ‘rumours’ that they ate beef"

My stomach turns. Several meat bans (especially beef) across India. Vegetarianism now a trait of the superior and the loyal Hindu; beef the symbol of the traitor. [Goat, chicken and fish eaters--you are somewhere dangling in between like a Trishanku]. I wrote this today:

Have you ever spliced a green stem and watched its flesh rip open and how its life fluid seeps on the edges, drip dripping slow? And how when peeling out a petal from a ripe flower, you can almost hear a bone crack, a cry escape? Especially when you break brittle a cauliflower and call it “florets”? And when you slice open a pea pod and tear its babies out, one by one by one, how the mother fruit winces and shrivels and how you discard her afterwards? Have you crushed a papaya flat through the sharp blades of your mixer-grinder, pureeing her muscle mass into a gooh or maybe squeezed the life out a mango and salivated?

Brahman, the Universal Consciousness of the Upanishads ain’t just in a white desi cow but in your spinach and cauliflower and peas and papaya and mango too. In the same proportion. Same sacredness. Om Purnamadah Purnamidam. That is full, this also is full.

Vegetarians are simply a different kind of meat eaters. That is all.
